In 2007, we couldn't fit everything we wanted to share on one CD! Allegro is an ensemble that celebrates its contradictions. While the group specializes in the music of the 16th and 17th centuries, it also presents world premieres of exciting new works. Our 2007 Premieres and Solos CD celebrates the world premiere of two important works: Ralph Lehman's Chamber Symphony and Arlen Clarke's Nocturne for Julia. The latter work was commissioned in memory of long-time Allegro friend Julia Oliver by her family. The CD also contains excerpts from performances by our outstanding season soloists: trumpeter Barton Woomert (from the Neruda Concerto and from Scott Irvine's Aubade), guitarist Allen Krantz (from Vivaldi's Concerto in D), violinist Austin Hartman (from Mozart's Concerto No. 3) and the Newstead Trio (from the Beethoven Triple Concerto).

Our 2007 installment of our season highlights is "Moments of Joy, Vol. III." This wonderful disk contains the much-beloved "Canon in D" of Pachelbel, along with movements from two symphonies of Haydn (No. 101, "The Clock", and No. 103, "The Drum Roll"), three by Bach (the adagio from Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and two movements from the Orchestral Suite No. 3), two movements from Mozart's Symphony No. 41 ("Jupiter") as well as one from his Serenata Notturna, and a movement from Boccherini's fantastic Symphony No. 6, subtitled "The House of the Devil!" Enjoy our Sixth season in memory with this disk!

We have continued a tradition of titling our favorite musical moments of a season "Moments of Joy" - after all, one of the meanings of the word Allegro is "joyful!" Moments of Joy, Vol II, from our Fifth Season (2006), contains movements from works by J. S. Bach as well as his son, Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach, and Bach's contemporary George Frederick Handel. From the Classical era you'll find Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Joseph Haydn, and the Fifth Symphony of that towering giant: Ludwig van Beethoven! Truly a feast for the ears!

2006 marked our Gala Fifth Season, and we celebrated with a World Premiere! Hornist Molly Norcross premiered composer Arlen Clarke's Cinco de Molly, a wonderful, Irish-tinged celebration in five movements. You can find it on our 2006 Soloists CD, along with a sparkling performance of Tartini's Concerto for Violin in D Minor by young soloist Michael Lambertson. Virtuoso pianist Maria Corley is featured on Mozart's Piano Concerto No 21 in C Major, K. 467, and the CD is rounded out with a special treat: Leopold Mozart's Toy Symphony, with soloists from Allegro's audience!

Our 2005 season was our best yet, and there were many audience requests for recordings of complete concerts. We are happy to comply! Our first 2005 recording is The Four Seasons of Allegro, recorded live at our July concert. It features concertmaster Bryan Rose's fine performance as soloist on Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. The concert CD also includes Beethoven's Egmont Overture and two favorites by Mozart: his Symphonies no. 32, and the sparkling La Clemenza di Tito.

Also from our 2005 season is the concert CD ...Bears, Oh My!, recorded in August. This concert featured a stunning performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the wonderful young soloist Matthew Graybil. The concert also featured Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 and Haydn's Symphony No. 82, subtitled The Bear. We just had to put popular horn player Barry Benjamin on the cover, since his nickname is also The Bear!

Moments of Joy, Vol I is the highlights CD from our 2004 season, featuring favorite movements from several works, including the Allegro from Xun Pan’s stirring performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26, and two Allegro movements from cellist Douglas McNames exquisite rendition of CPE Bach’s Concerto for Cello in A minor. Also included are movements from JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.

Fast and lively movements from some of the world's best music is the focus of Allegro's Allegros . The eleven pieces include movements from Bach's Brandenberg Concerto #3 and Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos, featuring Douglas McNames and Peter Brye as the cello soloists. Also included are movements from favorite works by Schubert, Mozart, Haydn and Krommer.

The Woodwind Concertos of Mozart showcases the musical gifts of the region's best wind musicians. The CD includes the Concerto for Oboe with soloist Jeff O'Donnell, the Concerto for Bassoon with Gail Ober, and the Concerto for Clarinet with Doris Hall-Gulati.
