Some compositions define an age so thoroughly that they become symbols that shine across the ages, enriching us and challenging us. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 is such a work – perhaps the archetype of all such works! In architectural terms, it is a towering edifice, a veritable cathedral of musical expression. As such, it is approached with humility and awe by any group wishing to perform it!

In 2009, Allegro will perform the 9th Symphony (also known as the Choral Symphony) with our own signature twist, utilizing an orchestra of the size that would have performed it in Beethoven's own age. Due to the expanded instrumental demands of this pivotal work, we will have 48 players on stage.

We are also thrilled to announce that our 60-voice chorus will be the combined voices of the Wheatland Chorale and the Susquehanna Chorale – the premiere choral ensembles in the region! The groups completed a joint tour of Europe this past summer, and that successful collaboration led to a commitment for further joint projects.

Our soloists for the Ninth are of equally high caliber. Those of you who follow the classical music scene in central PA will be excited to hear we will feature soprano Kristin Sims, alto Amy Yovanovich, tenor Jeffrey Fahnestock, and bass Dean Sensenig.

We anticipate a sellout for both the matinee and evening performances of the Ninth on August 8. To guarantee you will have a seat, order your season tickets now! Due to the special nature of this event, tickets for the August concert are only available as season tickets until May 1, 2009. You can purchase them at this year's prices if you order before January 1.

2009 individual and season tickets are available now via our tickets page. As always, we perform on the second Saturday of each summer month, June - August, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Buy your tickets now, before our planned price increase on Jan. 1, 2009!

Allegro offers a wonderful benefit for our youngest friends: audience members aged 5 to 16 can attend free with a paid adult! What a wonderful way to introduce a new generation to classical music.
