Dr. Brian Norcross conducts Allegro.
Dean of Lancaster Violinists John Hamilton is also one of the founding Board members of Allegro.
Gene Clark enjoys his role not only as a member of the trumpet section, but also as the newly elected President of Allegro’s volunteer Board of Directors.
Not only is Allegro lucky to have Mary Lee Yerger in the string section playing violin, but we also have her husband John as our principal bass player. The Yergers are one of several married couples who perform with Allegro.
Brian expresses his appreciation for the efforts and musical gifts of the Allegro musicians.
Flutist Matthew Allison dazzled the audience in July 2010 with his duet with the equally amazing Amanda Sparfeld on Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Flutes.
Mary Ellen DeWitt often performs on a harpsichord made by her husband Emery – who also plays oboe with Allegro.
Cellist John Caldwell has the distinction of being the only musician to play in every Allegro concert since our first performance in June 2002.
Allegro player Ellen Eager talks about her cello with audience members during intermission.
All the behind-the-scenes tasks are done by Allegro’s group of dedicated volunteers. They are easy to find at concerts in their cheery tangerine polo shirts.
In 2006 the special percussion parts in Leopold Mozart’s Toy Symphony were played by audience members Michael Ervin, Hal Plamjack, TJ Titcomb and Doris Davies.
Audience members know right away that Allegro concerts are going to be different. They’re greeted by musicians playing outside the concert hall, an innovation suggested by the players.
Another fun Allegro tradition is the end of season celebration. The party is held after the August evening performance and is open to all players, volunteers and audience members. In 2010 nearly three hundred people enjoyed the food and fellowship.
String players Bryan Rose, Sally Hart, Mary Lee Yerger, and Richard Ney get ready for the performance.
Ralph Lehman not only plays bassoon and serves on the Board of Directors, but he also is a distinguished composer. Allegro will world premiere his latest piece, Laudo per Gaudium, on July 9, 2011.
Michael Lambertson first performed as a soloist with Allegro. He had so much fun, he has become a regular member of the first violin section.
Mark Yingling brings a unique combination of power, subtlety, and emotion as he plays the timpani with Allegro.
Allegro is blessed with an exceptionally fine group of professional musicians eager to play with the ensemble. Brian’s positive and collaborative style of conducting is a key factor.
